During Brasil Game Show 2025, we had the opportunity to interview Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of the Final Fantasy VII remake project.

In the Q&A session, we asked Hamaguchi about the challenges Square Enix will face when porting Final Fantasy VII Rebirth to the Nintendo Switch 2, considering the company has already confirmed that all parts of the project will come to the Nintendo console.

Regarding the challenges, Hamaguchi commented:

Overall, making this kind of port is quite challenging, as there are many issues to consider—especially due to the fact that the Nintendo Switch has different performance levels in docked mode and in handheld mode. However, we gained a lot of experience with the port of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade and we intend to use it when porting Rebirth. Since the Remake port has been considered a great example, we have no concerns in that regard at the moment.

It’s worth remembering that the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will be released on January 22, 2026.
